Francis Inigo Thomas, landscape designer, architect, and writer was born 25th December 1865 and trained as an architect in the office of G. F. Bodley and Thomas Garner. After he published The Formal Garden in England (1892) he received a number of large commissions. Most of his commissions for gardens were from new owners of Tudor houses that required Thomas to restore and enlarge the buildings, and complement them with 17th and 18th-century gardens. He died in London in March 1950.
