Who was Herbert W. Probert?
Herbert W. Probert was the third curator at Queen's Park, succeeding Lawrence Morgan in 1935. Probert held the position until 1960. During his successful tenure he created the King George V Playing Fields and was responsible for laying out the Coronation Walk, to commemorate the Coronation of George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1937. The walk was a landscaped walkway, through rock gardens beside a small stream, which leads from the lake and winds up to the aviary.
