James Playfair was an architect active, particularly in Scotland, in the late-18th century. He was born in Benvie, near Dundee, Scotland on 5 August 1755 and died in Edinburgh, Scotland on 23 February 1794. He was the father of the architect William Henry Playfair (born 1790, died 1857).
