James Veitch was a gardener who worked in the early- to mid-19th century. He was trained at his father's (John Veitch) nursery at Budlake from 1800-1810. At Mount Radford, Devon, he established a new nursery from about 1830. He acquired the Exotic Nursery of Joseph Knight and Thomas A. Perry in 1853 with his son James. It was located on the King's Road, Chelsea. He died in Exeter on the 14th May 1863, leaving two sons, James and Robert.
