John Paterson was an architect and builder active, especially in Scotland, in the late-18th and early-19th century.
Paterson worked at Elgin, Scotland and then from 1791 in Edinburgh. He is particularly noted for having assisted Robert Adam (born 1728, died 1792) in managing his practice in Scotland.
After Adam's death Paterson became the leading practitioner of the 'Castle style' in Scotland and in the North of England.
