Margaret Sidney [Daisy] Davies was born on 14 December 1884. Daisy studied painting at the Slade School of Fine Art, London, and in Paris. Daisy and her sister Gwen created a Welsh centre to further art and design in 1919. The sisters resided at Plas Dinam, yet moved to Gregynog in 1922. Gregynog quickly became known as a centre of music-making, art and fine printing. Daisy Davies, who was made an honorary LLD in 1949, conveyed Gregynog to the University of Wales, living quietly as tenant there until her death, on 13 March 1963.
