Who was Richard Vaughan?
Father Richard Vaughan was an architect who worked in the 19th-century. He was responsible for designing the Italianate church of the Scared Heart, Edinburgh, in 1860. He was also involved in work at Stonyhurst College, Lancashire.
Life and Work
Vaughan designed the Italianate church of the Scared Heart, which opened in 1860. It took just a year to construct and at the time cost £5,300. It was originally intended to be a temporary church which at a later date could be turned into a public assembly hall.
