Thomas Sandby, architect and draughtsman, was almost certainly born in Nottingham. Sandby produced many architectural drawings at Great Windsor Park became the park steward from 1764 for the for the Duke of Northumberland. From 1757 Sandby was in charge of a substantial building campaign at the Great Lodge, the Duke of Northumberland's residence. Sandby was also associated with Virginia Water where he began work following the floods of 1768. Sandby married twice and had ten children. He died 25th June 1798.
