William Marshall

About William Marshall

William Marshall was born in 1745 in Sinnington, in North Yorkshire, England. He was the younger son of William and Alice, yeoman farmers.

Life and work

William was an agriculturalist and land agent who practised, and wrote about, agricultural improvement. From 1784 he became involved in landscape gardening, and in 1775 published a book, Planting and Ornamental Gardening.

William died in 1818 in Pickering, North Yorkshire.
