Introduction
The origins of the Beverley commons are difficult to find, but they are first recorded in the twelfth century, when Sewall de Bovill, archbishop of York and Beverley’s main landowner, agreed common rights for Westwood and Figham in exchange for Beverley Parks.
Burton Bushes is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
