Clare Park Recreation Ground, Maidstone

Introduction

Clare Park was designed for recreation, and was laid out between 1914 and 1917.

Clare Park has the advantage of a sunny southern aspect. While it is levelled and furnished more for recreational activity than for horticultural interest, the facilities are in constant use and there is the pleasurable feel of a garden.

London plane, silver maple, beech and Scots pine provide shelter, with smaller flowering trees around the greens and courts also giving good autumn colour. Shrub borders have spring bulbs and summer roses.
