Introduction
Claremont has a house with grounds to the east of Height Lane, later Claremont Lane. The whole area was being sub-divided and developed by the end of the 19th century, and the grounds of this house were given a much more simplified layout. The house was also being sheltered from the road by thickening of the boundary belt. The site is now lost. It was demolished after World War 1 to make way for a new housing estate.
