Introduction
Denton Lodge had a house with grounds to the north of Manchester Road (Broom Lane in 1848) backing on to ribbon development along Ashton Road to the west. The house was close to the northern boundary on a roughly rectangular site. There was a pleasure ground with boundary walk incorporating a pond, probably originally a field pond. The developed area was expanding by 1985, and a school had been built on the eastern boundary.
