History

The following extract is taken from the Kingswood Heritage Trail (see references):

"The park occupies the field in which the Fire brigade's horses were once kept (the fire station was located where the elderly persons flats now stand on the corner of Hollow Road).

The park was first laid out in 1934. Its gates are interesting in showing the coat of arms of Kingswood Urban District Council. The Arms were chosen in a competition in 1944 and reflect the bringing together of Hanham and Kingswood. Hanham 'in the hundred of Swineshead' (Domesday Book) is represented by a boar's head. The royal ermine border reflects the King's land, and the two golden stag's heads, the royal forest of Kingswood."
