The New Town Gardens, Calton Hill

Introduction

Calton Hill is a prominent hill north of the Old Town and east of the New Town in Edinburgh which affords panoramic views over the city, Holyrood Park and Salisbury Crags. A circuit path links the many monuments on the hill, but the emphasis of the layout is on open space.

Calton Hill can be accessed on foot from a staircase on Waterloo Place. It is also possible to drive to the top of the hill.
