- History
At the time of the East Hoathly tithe map, 1839, Whyly was owned by the Countess of Harcourt and occupied by John Houghton. There was no garden.
Court Book 5806/1, prepared in 1721: When Duke of Newcastle, T. Pelham-Holles settled much of his Sussex estates on his brother, Henry Pelham. The manor was sold after 1767 to the Smith family. Elizabeth Smith of Brighton sold it to William Gilliat of neighbouring Barham House in 1858. His family sold it in 1871.
