Introduction
Built for the second Duke of Atholl in 1758 and restored in 1953, this folly sits on a rocky outcrop overlooking the turbulent Black Linn Fall, which affords fine views of the distant woodlands.
The original building here was a summerhouse built in 1757 as a retreat from the pressures of daily life – a hermitage, which gave the place its name. Ossian’s Hall was built in 1782–3 to replace the summerhouse.
