Richardson Dees Park (also known as Wallsend Park)

In 1897, Robert Richardson Dees, local solicitor and benefactor donated fourteen acres of his Hall estate to the Urban District Council for use as a park. The land was the site of the Wallsend C pit.

The park was opened by G. B. Hunter, managing partner of Swan Hunter Shipyard and one time Mayor of Wallsend.

History

The park was opened on 4th June 1900, and was originally named Wallsend Park. The park was later renamed Richardson Dees Park in recognition of solicitor and owner of Wallsend Hall, Robert Richardson Dees, who had donated the land in 1897.
