Introduction
Rose Bank is a house off Market Street, which was bounded by Etherow House to the east, the River Etherow to the south and field divisions to the west. There was a small productive garden, a pleasure garden and a small park. There may also have been a larger park, with clumps and single trees perhaps delineating field boundaries. The site survives in part. The house remains. The larger park has been built over alongside the River Etherow, but most of it also survives as an open space.
