The Merchant Navy Memorials First World War section

Introduction

Within the Tower Hill public garden is The Merchant Navy Memorial, First World War section, by Sir Edwin Landseer Lutyens to the missing of the Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleet, 1928.

Also located in the gardens is The Second World War memorial. 1952-55 to the designs of Edward Maufe for the Imperial War Graves Commission, as a complement to the adjoining First World War memorial by Lutyens laid out in the form of a sunken garden. The sculptor was Charles Wheeler.
